Day on Sydney Harbour

Well, yesterday started out at about 8:30, when I got to Tunks Park, Cammeray. I was there for the "Sail to Make Poverty History" event held by the Oaktree Foundation in conjunction with Peter Edington. Waiting for about 10 minutes, all of us eventually turned up, and we goton a tinny to go out the the yacht that Peter Edington built and owns.

Then we struck our first proble of the day: The tinny wouldn't start. So we got towed out to the boat. Once on the boat, the rest of the day would be awesome.

The boat is a custom built, 60ft yacht, with enough space to sleep 6 to 8 people quite comfortably. peter had built the boat in England, where he comes from, and had sailed it half way round the world (via many different places), ending up in Australia. His daughters then went to uni in Australia, and pursued careers etc, so he has found himself in Australia since 2000. The boat itself helps raise money for the Fred Hollows Foundation, and is now the "make poverty history" boat, with the MPH website painted on the sides of the boat.

The 6 of us then went out for a day of sailing on Sydney harbour, intermingled with discussion on the G20 meeting in Melbourne this year, along with discussion regarding AusAIDs White Paper on Australian ODA until 2010. We also talked about Oaktree in NSW, and future direction of Oaktree, along with many other issues that popped up during the day.

We also had a great time on the harbour, and the people I met were all so awesome!

the main aim of the event? To get a crew of young people to sail to Melbourne, from Sydney, in time for the G20 meeting, to show the G20 nations that we do want the MDGs to become a framework for development, and to show that we truly ant to makepovertyhistory
